Cochin, a.k.a Kochi, is a city in seaport in south-western India, in Kerala. Cochin lies at the northern end of a narrow neck of land about 19 km (12 mi) long and less than 1.6 km (1 mi) wide in many places, and is separated from the mainland by inlets from the sea and by the estuaries of rivers draining from the Western Ghats.
A modern port complete with dry docks and repair yards is here; during its construction, spoil from the dredging was used to create Willingdon Island, which connects Cochin to other towns in the area.
Cochin is the most important port on the Western Coast. Products made from coconuts are the most important in the city's export trade. Rice is imported.
The major industries of Cochin are shipbuilding, sawmilling, fishing, and the manufacture of coir mats. With Population of 1,139,543 , Cochin is regarded as the industrial capital of Kerala. It is one of the best ports in asia. Thousands of tourists visit this place every year. Tourists planning to visit Kerala could land at this port.
Cochin also has the High Court of Kerala, the highest court of judiciary in a state, though Cochin is not the capital of Kerala.
Cochin is a investment hub. It houses many major IT Parks. The city is considered to be the most prosperous one in Kerala. Another attraction of the city is the 'Marine Drive'. Situated on the shores of the Arabian sea, it is a well maintained Park.
The city also has clusters of flats. Majority of the people, in the city, lives in flats. The western culture is slowly, but steadily, showing its presence in the city.
