Capital Trivandrum

The capital city of Kerala is Thiruvananthapuram, better known as Trivandrum. The city situated to the south of Kerala, houses the Secretariate and the Legislative Assembly.
Industries include cotton and silk weaving and monazite processing. Trivandrum is the site of the University of Kerala, which was founded on 1937.
An 18th-century Vishnu temple built within a fort is also a great attraction.

The Population according to the census 1991 is just about 523,723 which is considerably low when compared to the other major cities.
Trivandrum, houses an international airport with all modern facilities. All major flights touches this airport. It is half an hour drive from the cities major railway station.
Trivandrum also sites some of the most beutifull places in Kerala. 'Vaeli' is a tourist center. The statues, built by Kannai, is the major attraction here. The city also has a long coastline, housing all major resorts on its shores. The 'Vaeli' lake is situated on the sandbars of Arabian Sea. A boat ride through the lake gives an enchanting feeling.
The municipality is taking special measures to bring down the sewage problems, which always arise during the mansoon showers.
